Point struggled at the plate in game one of the series on Friday as the Skyhawks lost to the Rams 4-0 in seven innings.

Mobile jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning as J.T. Lastorka drove Sam Bowman in on a double. The Rams continued adding to that lead in the later innings as Cameron Brock drove in a run on a single in the top of the sixth inning.

Peyton Bell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Bowman put the final touches on Mobile’s win with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

The Skyhawks struggled from start to finish at the plate in game one. Point managed just three hits in the game, and the team only had six total baserunners.

Julio Lopez got the start on the mound and pitched all seven innings for the Skyhawks. Lopez gave up seven hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out three batters. Lopez received the loss and currently sits at 4-3 on the season.

Game two: Point- 5 Mobile – 8

Game two of the series on Saturday was a different story, but the same result as the Skyhawks fell to Mobile 8-5.

Game two started the same way for Mobile as Lastorka got the scoring started with a one-run double in the top of the first inning, but Point stormed back in the bottom of the second inning.

Jordan Nathaniel got it started for the Skyhawks with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Alex Marquand then gave Point a 2-1 with a sacrifice fly to drive in Chris Mancill.

Mobile stole the momentum from Point in the top of the fifth inning as Brock drove in a run with a single, and Alex McWhorter gave the Rams a 3-2 lead with a sacrifice fly.

The Skyhawks scored two runs on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Marquand gave Point the lead in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single.

Everything seemed to be going in Point’s favor until the top of the ninth inning when the Rams exploded at the plate. A double, a single, two errors and a passed ball led to the Rams scoring five runs in the inning and stealing the game from the Skyhawks.

Cameron Seiwert gave Point a quality start on the mound. Seiwert allowed 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out seven batters in six innings of work. Sage McWaters relieved Seiwert in the seventh and gave the Skyhawks two scoreless innings. Joshua Castillo came in to close the game in the ninth and allowed five runs, but just three of the runs were earned.

Point’s bats had a much better day in game two as the Skyhawks produced 10 hits. Mink led the way, going 3-for-5 while Marquand and Hunter Neumayer finished with two hits apiece.

Game three: Point – 7 Mobile – 8

Defense came to bite the Skyhawks again in the final game of the series as the Skyhawks fell to the Rams 8-7.

The game got started on a high note for the Skyhawks as Marquand and Daniel Gonzales each hit one-run doubles in the bottom of the first inning to give the Skyhawks an early 2-0 lead.

Just like in the second game, the Rams came storming back. McWhorter hit a solo home run in the top of the second to cut the lead to one, and another error gave the Rams two more runs in the top of the third inning. Then, Brock finished off the top of the third with a three-run home run to put Mobile ahead 6-2.

Baker hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to three, but Mobile added another run in the top of the eighth to bring the lead back to four.

The game seemed out of reach, but the Skyhawks refused to go down without a fight. Jaden Mazzaferro hit a one-run double to cut the lead to three. Rafael Jackson had the biggest hit of the series for the Skyhawks with a three-run home run to tie the game at seven heading into the final inning.

Bowman came through for the Rams in the top of the ninth with a one-run single to give Mobile the series sweep.

Defense was costly for Point throughout the three-game series. The Skyhawks finished with seven errors in the series.

Daniel Crabtree got the start on the mound for Point and allowed three earned runs and four non-earned runs in seven innings of work. Crabtree received the loss and is 1-3 on the season.

The weekend series proved to be costly for the Skyhawks. Mobile has now overtaken Point in the Southern States Athletic Conference Standings. The Skyhawks currently sit fourth in the conference after four straight losses.

Point holds a 20-13 record with an 11-10 conference record. Up next for the Skyhawks is a matchup on the road against Toccoa Falls on Tuesday.
