Chambers Academy needed every out on Monday to mount a comeback and defeat Southern Christian 8-7 on a walk-off.
It was all about plate discipline with the game on the line for the Rebels. A walk, a single and another walk loaded the bases for Luke Tarver with two outs. Tarver drew the bases-loaded walk to score Sam Smith and win the game.
Southern Christian jumped out to an early lead with Hayden Hendrix on the mound for Chambers Academy. A lead-off walk along with a double and a single gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead before another double helped Southern Christian jump out to a 4-0 lead.
Plate discipline came into play in a major way for the Rebels in the bottom of the first inning. A bases-loaded walk from Eli Whorton got Chambers Academy on the board. Then, a wild pitch scored Drew Sheppard and cut Southern Christian’s lead to two.
The Patriots added a run in the top of the third inning before the Rebels took control in the bottom of the third. Luke Tarver drove in a run with a single before later scoring on an error. A passed ball scored another run to tie the game before Sam Smith drove in a run with a single to give the Rebels a 6-5 lead. Payton Yerta capped off the inning with a single to score another run.
The game looked to be over in the top of the seventh before a double tied it all up at seven with two outs.
Hendrix got the start on the mound for Chambers Academy and allowed three hits and four earned runs in one inning of action. Landon Hand replaced Hendrix and allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Kole Baker finished the game for the Rebels, allowing two earned runs and three hits in one inning.
