Get ready for skeet shooting and a live auction this Saturday in LaFayette. The local Log a Load for Kids fundraiser has returned to Chambers County. 

This year, Piedmont District’s Log a Load event will be held at the Oaks Farm in LaFayette on April 20. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. CT in the main building and the sporting clay begins at 8:00 a.m. CT. The events carry on from then throughout the day. 

Guests will be able to participate in a sporting clay shoot, a turkey shoot, a long shot event, a “guess the weight” game and a live and silent auction.

“This is probably going to be the largest auction that we’ve ever had,” said Mandy Cain, chairman of the Piedmont District Log a Load event. 

There have already been 100 donations for items in the auction so far. Cain said the auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. 

This year, there will also be two food trucks and a kids’ play area for the one-day event. 

Last year’s campaign was a record-breaking one for the Log a Load for Kids Piedmont District. They raised a total of $122,437 from the event. The nationwide campaign raised $6 million for the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

This year, Cain said it would be great to beat last year’s total but anything that they can earn is worth it.

Log a Load for Kids is a statewide and national annual fundraising event for children’s hospitals across the country. Loggers, landowners, foresters and wood product manufacturers come together to support children who have been abused, injured or are critically ill through donations to the CHIPS (Children’s Hospital of Intervention and Prevention Services) Center at Children’s of Alabama. 

The partnership between Log a Load and Children’s Hospital of Alabama began in 1992 with a more than $45,000 donation. By 1995, they began donating directly to the CHIPS Center starting with a $265,000 fund.

The Log a Load for Kids campaign has raised a cumulative $8 million for the CHIPS Center.
