LANETT — The Lanett City School Board has a new member. At the Monday meeting of the Lanett City Council, Johnny Wood was sworn in to represent District 3. He fills a vacancy created by the death of Tony Edmondson on January 17th. Edmondson served on the board for years but is best remembered for being the long-time executive director of Valley Haven School and for his role in building the Hike/Bike/Run fundraiser into what it is today.
Wood has been with the City of Lanett in some capacity for years now. He has been with the police department and is now the city’s code enforcement officer. He’s an expert in getting grants and has had some considerable success in getting weed liens enacted and dilapidated houses brought down.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent District 3,” he told the council and a large gathering inside the council chamber. “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to you for approving me to this important role.”
Superintendent Jennifer Boyd was there to show her support on behalf of the Lanett City Board of Education.
“I want to take this moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of District 3’s previous board member, Mr. Tony Edmondson,” Wood said. “His commitment to our schools and students has laid a strong foundation, and I am inspired by his example as I step into this new role.”
“I want to thank my wife Carrie for her support and understanding of my passion to serve Lanett and my extended city family,” Wood continued. “Thank you for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am excited to contribute to the continued success of our school district.”
