The Lanett Police Department has made two arrests in a string of armed robberies in the city, according to Captain Patrick McCullough of the LPD. Two juveniles have been arrested and charged.
Starting on May 12, a series of armed robberies have occurred in the City of Lanett. Four total armed robberies have occurred in the City Limits of Lanett involving what is believed to be the same suspects.
The targets of the robberies have specifically been members of our Hispanic community. McCullough said while, “These robberies do appear appear to exclusively target Hispanic victims,” the investigation is still ongoing.
If the investigation finds the victims were targeted due to race, McCullough said a federal case can be adopted, but it would be up to a federal prosecutor.
The suspects appear to be young black males between the ages of 16 and 25. In one robbery, a 2014 Red Kia Forte was stolen and its whereabouts are still unknown at this time. The suspects are armed with various firearms at the time of the robberies.
Pictures of three of the suspects were included in the release. Investigators believe that more suspects may be involved.
On June 11, Officers of the Lanett Police Department executed a search and arrest warrant on a juvenile black male in relation to this case. Due to the use of a firearm in this felony robbery, the juvenile is charged as an adult. Later the same day, a second juvenile was arrested and charged with three counts of 1st-degree robbery.
