Under a law passed by the Alabama last session, there are now, “enhance[d] penalties for any criminal activity that benefits, promotes, or furthers the interest of a gang.”

Now juveniles 16 or older can be tried as adults for engaging in these activities. The sentencing for a Class A felony under this law can be 25 years jail time. Time is also added to sentencing for using a firearm during gang-related activities.
