The West Point Municipal Planning Board approved the recommendation of the Love’s Truck Stop road dedication to the city. 

The Love’s Truck Stop road is a 100 foot wide and 712 foot long strip built during construction of the truck stop. Now, the company is donating the road to the city for future use. The 100 feet wide strip owned by J&H Homeplace LLC is consistent with an arterial road, which is a high-capacity urban road. 

Now that they Municipal Planning Board has approved of the dedication, the city council will be able to accept the new city road. It will become the city’s responsibility to maintain. 

The road can then be used for the next developer that plans to build off exit 2 from I-85. According to the meeting packet, an undisclosed developer is attempting to buy the property adjacent for an undisclosed development. 

According to Dennis Dutton, community development director, there are several plots near the exit 2 off ramp from I-85 that are being considered for commercial and residential development. 

Dutton said part of the slowdown with the project was with the weather. 

The Love’s Truck Stop held its ribbon cutting ceremony in November 2023. The opening of the facility brought four companies to West Point, the Love’s station, Hardee’s, Godfather’s and Speedco, which opened a month after the Love’s. 

At its opening, Love’s hired 140 local employees to man the facility. Love’s Truck Stop has 18 gasoline fueling stations, two of which have diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) pumps, and 17-23 diesel stations equipped with DEF pumps.
