The Springwood Wildcats fall to the Southern Christian Athletic Patriots for the season opener.
With a good start in the first half (21-22) Running back CJ Johnson carries the team scoring multiple touchdowns.
Springwood led the first half, but the Patriots increased its lead, making a comeback. The young team falls short after the second half, unable to stop the SCA Patriots.
Head coach Joey Burch said, “We have a very young team and a couple of seniors who haven’t played in several years. We have a lot of starters who are first-year players, but we’re going to develop and eventually be a good football team.”
Last year the Wildcats dominated the Patriots (50-7). After tonight’s game Coach Burts plans to look at film, correct mistakes, and move some people around to prepare for the next game against Lighthouse Home School.
“We got to get in shape and tackle a little bit better,” coach Burch said.
Coach Burts praised the Wildcats “Hats off to SCA they were very physical and a very good football team! No shame in losing to them tonight.”
Young Quarterback Wesley Carden and Running back CJ Johnson “have all the talent in the world, we’re going to correct and they’re going to get better “ said Coach Burch.
Springwood will host, matchup against Lighthouse Homeschool football next Friday.
