The Chambers County School District recently announced a partnership with Larry Thornton and The Why Not Win Institute. The non-profit organization, the Why Not Win Institute strives to develop individual excellence using leadership lessons from the book, Why Not Win? by Larry Thornton.
Sponsors sent $3,000 in books to be gifted to the 6 to 8th-grade students at JP Powell STEAM Magnet School.
Thornton began his career in the corporate world by painting signs for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, which eventually led him to become the first black McDonald’s franchise owner in the state of Alabama.
Later, he became an entrepreneur, opening multiple stores and becoming the President and Owner of Thornton Enterprises, Inc. Thornton now serves on the Board of Directors for Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc. and First Commercial Bank (Synovus).
The book, Why Not Win?, was released in 2019, and from that project developed the Why Not Win Institute as a curriculum that teaches the principles of the book to others, according to Thornton’s website.
According to the release, Thornton has committed to speak to the CCSD students at both JPP & LaFayette High School on Oct. 23.
His inspirational book was recently featured on NBC News and is available on Amazon. More on Mr. Thornton’s mission is shared with the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=VWeWLZz_wsM
The CCSD press release thanked Auburn University professor Dave Ketchen for helping in the partnership between Thornton and the school system.
