The Chambers County Commissioners approved several projects for the county highway department including the Chambers County Rebuild Alabama Transportation Plan.
The county commission also approved nearly a dozen road and bridge projects for fiscal year 2025 as part of the Chambers County 10-Year Transportation Plan.
The Rebuild Alabama Act Annual Grant Program is a transportation infrastructure grant program that funds projects of local interest through ALDOT. The act was enacted into law by the Alabama Legislature in 2019.
For fiscal year 2025, the Chambers County Rebuild Alabama total budget is $1,502,000. For many projects, the Rebuild funds only cover a portion and the county uses other local funds for the remaining amount. For instance, the total estimated cost for the CR 281 project is $300,000 but only $212,000 will be covered.
The road projects planned for the Rebuild Alabama fund are as follows:
- Widen, resurface and traffic stripe County Road 281 from 278 north for 1.02 miles to Randolph County
- Resurface and traffic stripe CR 114 from State Road 77 east for 4.22 miles to Highway 431
- Resurface and stripe CR 83 from CR 177 north for 3.52 miles to Norfolk Southern Railroad
Several other projects were approved as part of the 10-Year Transportation Plan on Monday night:
- Reconstruct, chip seal and traffic stripe CR 288 from CR 278 north for 1.58 miles to the Georgia state line
- Reconstruct, chip seal and traffic stripe CR 263 from CR 267 east for 3.12 miles to CR 266
- Reconstruct, chip seal and traffic stripe CR 258 from US 431 north for 4.6 miles to CR 234
- Install seal treatment and traffic stripe CR 281 from CR 289 from N. 18th Street north for 5.78 miles to CR 216
- Install seal treatment and traffic stripe CR 388 from Lee CR 266 east for 4.11 miles to US Hwy 29
- Replace bridge 90 on CR 20 over Little Sandy Creek
- Replace bridge 103 on CR 46 over County Line Creek
- Replace bridge 148 on CR 156 over Chikasanoxee Creek
According to Harvill, the county will do all the reconstruction projects — CR 288, CR 263 and CR 258. The rest of the projects will need to be bid out to contractors.
