Take Back Box good for the area

Police work is never easy. Many officers only see the worst elements of society on a day-to-day basis. This is one of the reasons why the recent news of the Prescription Drug Take Back Box in Chambers County is so good. While police deal with daily challenges that civilians never see, this new service allows for some positive experiences.
The opioid crisis currently affecting many cities and counties in Alabama is no secret and has claimed far too many lives. This box should be a big help in combating this issue in our area.
Prescription drug abuse has led to a wide-ranging set of problems in our community and others like ours. Medications that people don’t want, don’t need or have expired but people are wary of just throwing drugs in the trash have not been particularly easy to dispose of, until now.
Thankfully with the box there is an alternative and hopefully our citizens will take advantage of it.
Then there is the way the box has been set up. Located in the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, anyone can come in and drop medications into the box, no questions asked. The box will also be under 24-hour security, so no one will be able to take anything out of it without authorization.
This box adds a little bit of good back into the world. Hopefully the public will take full advantage of it to the point that a second box is needed.
