The “real” season is now underway as teams have started region play. This week we have two teams at home and our first by-week. Let’s get into it.

LaFayette:

The Bulldogs will take on region foe Loachapoka away. The team is coming off their first loss of the season against Ranburne last Friday at Bulldog Stadium.

Four starters went down in quick succession during the last outing, including Quarterback Kamare Harrington. Despite the injuries, LaFayette came back from 19-0 in the second half to end the game 19-14.

Last year’s region champs, Loachapoka, have yet to pick up a win this season, most recently falling to Lanett 13-0. The Indians beat LaFayette 32-12 in last season’s matchup.

Lanett:

After shutting out Loachapoka, the Panthers are back at home against Greenville. The Georgia team will not be a region matchup but it should be a good matchup nonetheless.

The Patriots are 2-2, losing their last two games. They went 2-7 last season. The Panthers have met the Patriots before, but not since Bill Clinton was president, so expect the unexpected. The

Lanett is hoping to extend its record to 3-1 under new head coach, RJ McDonald. The game will be good preparation for the following week when the Panthers will face LaFayette.

Springwood:

The Wildcats are on the road in Columbiana, AL this week to face off in a rematch of last year’s state championship. Springwood will be facing the defending AISA 8-man state champions, Cornerstone Christian, the team that beat Springwood for the state champ title last year.

The Chargers look just as dominant this season having won all three games by at least 38 points, and crushing North River Christian 70-0. In their last meet-up, in 2023, Cornerstone came out on top 66-18.

With 8-man football, the scores tend to be high. Besides the first game, Springwood has scored over 40 points to earn a 2-1 record so far.

Valley:

The Rams are the first local team with a by-week. Valley will get some needed rest after a tough outing against powerhouse Clay County. After losing 48-0, Valley will look to rebound on Sept. 20 against Marbury.
