LaFayette had quite the eventful homecoming, putting up 48 points to Coosa County’s 8 points, for their fourth win of the season. 

The Bulldogs ran away with the game earlier. Zephaniah Phillips got things started four minutes into the game with a short run off of a shovel pass from quarterback Kamare Harrington.

The defense turned into receivers nabbing four interceptions in the first half. The first came courtesy of Jamorrious Broughton getting the Bulldogs within Coosa County’s red zone. Defenders couldn’t lay a hand on Phillips as he put the drive to bed. This was his second touchdown in under a minute. 

Phillips had a good night on both sides of the ball, making a big third-down stop on defense. The Cougars tried for a long fourth down, only to throw another interception to Jackson Winston on the halfway mark. 

However, the Bulldogs weren’t able to do much else in the first. 

The second would be more of the same. The first drive saw another bang-up run by Phillips followed by a speedy Harrington rush. This time Julian Robinson finished the job with a short run to make it 21-0. 

Then, things got weird. The Cougars would throw a third interception, caught by Ahmad Strickland on Coosa County’s 13-yard line. A couple of plays later LaFayette gave it back with a fumble. On the next play, Coosa throws another interception, this time to Quintavious Lloyd. The very next play LaFayette fumbles again, though thankfully they were able to recover, getting out of the cycle. 

This circus set up the play of the game. On fourth and long, Harrington breaks two tackles in a scramble to find a receiver. He finds one in Phillips. The physical player carries multiple defenders for the better part of ten yards for his third touchdown. 

With all the momentum on their side, LaFayette’s offensive kept it rolling. A 51-yard touchdown run put the Bulldogs up 35-0 with six minutes still left in the first half. The defense threw a perfect game, shutting Coosa out. 

However, special teams gave up a punt return touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give Coosa a consolation six points. 

Come halftime, the homecoming festivities began. The homecoming court and their escorts paraded down the fifty-yard line. In the end, Madyson Fuzzell and Cardarrien Whitlow were named LaFayette High’s homecoming queen and king. 

With the lopsided score, the clock kept ticking in the second half. Despite the time constraints, the Bulldogs added two more touchdowns on the night. A final interception by Lloyd was run in to make it 42-0 in the third. 

The final offensive touchdown came twice. Travon Williams took it all the way downfield only to have it called back due to a holding call. No matter, JV running back Lacey just did it again. The final score was 48-8, moving LaFayette 4-4 on the season and 1-4 in their region. They will take on Horseshoe Bend at home next Friday.
