Valley:

Unfortunately, Valley will play their last game of the 2024 season on Friday. Despite an upset win over No. 2 Beauregard last week, the Rams just missed out on a spot in the 4A playoffs. This week they will send their seniors off against Dadeville.

While Valley has relied on the run game, with Galvin Goss, traditionally a wide receiver, taking the role of quarterback. Goss has put up high numbers on the rushing side. However, against Beauregard Goss was moved back to wideout, where he was exceptional.

Valley’s second-string quarterback Caden Foreman proved to be the arm the Rams needed, diversifying their game. Having only played two games, the junior has averaged 121.5 passing yards and 43 rushing yards on two carries.

Perhaps the most impressive player this season is Tilyn Carrell who surpassed 1000 yards this season and averages 142.8 yards a game. Goss is the touchdown leader with 12 and has 843 yards on the season. Zan Woody has been the preferred wide receiver target with 21 receptions and 257 receiving yards.

Woody is also a top performer on defense recording 62 total tackles so far. The underclassmen have had a strong defensive showing this year, with Sophomores Mason Yarbrough and Nikelen Linson averaging 63 and 62 tackles, respectively. Senior Antwan Greenwood has double the number of sacks, with seven, as any other Ram.

Dadeville has gone 3-6 on the year and will also be closing out their season on Friday. The 3A team is as likely to run as they are to pass. The Tigers have 1247 rushing yards on the season, nearly equaling Carrells all purpose-yards. The two teams have not met since 2017. The Rams have won 15 of the 21 matchups.

Chambers:

After falling in their first game against Mississippi powerhouse Starkville, Chambers Academy has gone undefeated. In their final regular season game, the Rebels will face Abbeville Christian Academy.

The non-region AISA AA opponent has gone 2-6 this season. The Generals are coming off a 33-14 loss against Edgewood Academy, a team that Chambers beat 37-7 earlier in the season.

Last week the Rebels continued their streak winning 44-14 against Crenshaw. Landon Hand has improved his passing game throughout his first season as QB1. He had 52 passing yards against Crenshaw for one passing touchdown. Hand’s rushing game has been his stronger side. He had the second-most rushing yards last week with 133 yards over four carries as well as a rushing touchdown.

The top rusher was once again Luke Tarver. Tarver has had an MVP season on both sides of the ball as the Rebel’s go-to running back and an impactful linebacker. He had eight carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns last week. On the defensive side, he recorded seven tackles and a fumble recovery.

The wealth has been shared, however, as Chambers has runners in spades with upperclassmen Jacob Norgard, Eli Wharton and TJ Daniel on the roster.

The defense has been adept during the second half of the season with turnovers, getting six last week alone.

“It was a great senior night for a great group. Our underclassmen gave them a great going away present by how they played. It has been a tremendous ride for this senior bunch and they know they are cementing their legacy with how they finish their careers…It has been a joy to coach them and watch them grow as young men.”

Those seniors include Tarver, Daniel, Norgard, Tyler Popwell and Jonathan Caulfield.
