Folks are going to be busy in West Point for the next couple of weeks. Council members Sandra Thornton, Jerry Ledbetter and Kevin Patrick gave announcements about several events going on throughout the month during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
West Point’s annual Walk for a Cure is on November 2 at 10 a.m. The walk is in honor of the Betty LaGayle Foundation. LaGayle was a longtime employee of the city of West Point.
The Merry Market in West Point, an annual local merchant and maker shopping event, is on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 709 4th Avenue.
This week is also Point University’s homecoming week. The college will be hosting a food truck event on Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and then the game will be on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Valley Rams Stadium.
Sunday, November 3, is the 187th anniversary of the West Point Presbyterian Church, which Ledbetter said is nearly as old as the city itself.
The West Point Methodist, First Baptist and Presbyterian churches around town will be hosting a safe place for kids to enjoy Halloween with trunk-or-treat events starting at 5:30 p.m. The citywide trick-or-treat will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to give out candy should leave their porchlight on.
