During last week’s West Point city council work session, City Community Development Director Dennis Dutton addressed the council about a potential annexation and rezoning for a plot of land on Warner Road.

The plot, at 523 Warner Road in unincorporated Troup County, is owned by Chris Welton of Safe Truck Parking Solutions, LLC. He is requesting to annex and rezone the property from a general commercial to mixed-use district. The parcels consist of approximately 25.59 acres.

The Municipal Planning Board plans to meet on December 2 to make recommendations for the request to annex and rezone. The city council will deliberate and then make a motion on whether to approve the annexation afterward.

According to Welton’s plan, the property would be annexed into the city of West Point for the water, sewer, electricity, and public safety “to develop a truck parking service as well as buildings for commercial and industrial uses” according to the meeting notes.

The MPB will vote on an ordinance for rezoning and annexation.

During the work session, city council members asked if Walton plans to have a restaurant on the property. He said that it was still being considered but no decision was made yet.

Walton said he is working with a national real estate firm to complete a study determining what services and commercial developments are in the most demand in the area.
