The community gathered around brand-new couches, beds and armchairs on Thursday to celebrate the grand opening of the newest furniture store in the city of Valley.

“Thank you for the support that we have had over the past 24 years that we’ve been here as a previous owner through Badcock,” Angie said to the guests during the ribbon cutting.

Though Alexander’s Furniture, owned by Angie and Rob Alexander, just opened, it fills a familiar hole in the city.

For the last 24 years, the Alexander’s have run the Badcock location on 20th Avenue in Valley. For those that don’t know, the 120-year-old furniture store closed all 380 stores in 2024 due to the parent company filing for bankruptcy.

After the Badcock closed, though, the Alexander’s decided that they were not done serving the Valley yet. Angie Alexander said they decided to remodel to prepare to finally showcase their own name above their doors. The couple was surrounded by friends and family on Thursday as they celebrated that milestone.

“Thank you for seeing your vision through,” said Carrie Wood, director of the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. “I know that when Badcock closed, we were all really sad and heartbroken over that, to have that really nice store go away here in our community. But you guys kept us alive, and we really appreciate that.”

After so many years of serving the community, the Alexander family finally got to cut the ribbon on their new store, sponsored by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re glad that y’all are still here in the city of Valley, and we wish you many more years on this in the same area,” said Valley Councilmember Marquetta Madden.

As part of the celebration, Alexander’s offered a 10 percent discount on any item in the store and also held a recliner giveaway, which anyone who visited the store all yesterday was signed up for.

Angie Alexander said they are excited to continue to serve the Valley area with a wider selection of high-quality furniture and with the same customer service as always. The store has retained all of its former staff so loyal customers will recognize the faces the next time they visit.

Angie said, “We are here to make sure you’re definitely taken care of. And I mean, I just want to say thank you so much for just that outpouring love and support already from the community to make this actually happen and fall into place.”

Later, Angie told the Valley Times-News that the support from the community has been great, adding, “When I say love, I mean some of our customers, I consider [them] like family.”

Though the customer service will remain the same high quality, Angie said they look forward to engaging with the community even more and providing more options to their new and longtime customers.

“I’m just excited about what’s coming ahead and we want to be here for all the years to come to help the community,” Angie said.
