Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Springwood girls are still perfect this season after beating Trinity Christian Academy in a lopsided 53-4 game on Tuesday night.

“We weren’t running the plays [in the first],” said Lisa Sampson, head coach. We had people in different positions, so that kind of was why we really weren’t in sync, and we didn’t play our starters altogether.”

The Wildcats offense looked uncharacteristically flat in the first frame. But thanks to good rebounding by Caroline Van Shoor under the basket and team defense they ended the first 12-2.

They came to life in the second, choosing shots wisely and doing better on the transition. Seven players got on the board in the second quarter by moving the ball around well. They stretched the lead to 22-2, shutting out Trinity completely.

Sampson got to rest some of her starters, allowing the younger players to see some minutes in the second half. The young crew proved equally effective holding Trinity to only two more points in the half. The team also tacked on 18 points in the third quarter.

They led 52-4 going into the final frame. Vega Monslave seemed to keep the tempo for the team throughout the second half. Springwood cruised in the fourth, only scoring one point off of a free throw. However, they once again shut out Trinity to run out the clock in a decisive win.

Tori Patillo was the team leader on Tuesday, scoring 14 points. Kacy Harper followed with 10 points and Monsalve with seven. Shalexia Little and Van Shoor shot 6 points apiece.

“Senior leadership was great because, you know, we rotated a bunch of kids in, I thought they really did their job,” Sampson said. “It’s the younger ones that are starting to click, [and] that’s really fun to watch.”

The Wildcats will return to action on Jan. 20 against Konos Academy on the road. They improved their ever-impressive record to 14-0 and their region record to 3-0.
