The Panthers got a region win on Monday, beating Loachapoka 51-26.

The offense got out to a hot start scoring 15 in the first frame. Ziegler put up six alone in the first quarter. The Panthers also had a lot of free throw opportunities on the night and went 8 for 18.

Loachapoka’s Mitchell Chenier’s efforts offensively cut the lead to 15-12 by the end of the quarter. But, that would be as close as it would get for Loachapoka.

Lanett’s defense won the night, allowing only 14 points by the Indians in the final three-quarters of the game. Six players got on the board in the second, taking smart fouls. They extended their lead to 29-17 at the half.

The Panther’s offense slowed a bit in the third, only putting up six points and outscoring Loachapoka by one in the quarter. However, they did not go quietly. Lanett would score a night-high 16 points to end the night strong.

Jeremiah McGilberry was the leading scorer with 13 points. Keondae Huguely had 11 and Riontae Zeiger would end the night with eight. But it was a team effort offensively as eight players got on the scorebook.

After a tough start to the season, Lanett is now second in their area with a 3-1 record. They take on the current number-one seed and cross-county rival, LaFayette on Friday at home.
