The Chambers County Commission is offering reimbursement for school supplies to public school teachers. The “Reach the Teach” initiative offers a $45 Walmart gift card to teachers who go through the reimbursement process. 

During the Monday work session of the Commission, the county manager said they had only had 25 teachers take advantage of the program so far. All public school teachers in the county are eligible for the reimbursement. Teachers who have applied in the past and received the gift card can apply again. 

“They go get their supplies…then, they take the receipt, they fill out a form, send it to the Commission Office, and then get the $45 gift card back. They can use [that gift card] how they want to,” said Commissioner Sam Bradford.

The teachers must show that they have spent over $45 dollars on school supplies in order to be eligible. 

“Teachers are always spending money out of their pocket for school supplies, especially the lower-grade teachers…this is a way to help them out.”
