With the snow finally starting to melt, schools have made the call for closing on Friday, Jan. 24.

As ice still impacts county roads, the Chambers County School District has decided to remain closed on Friday.

In a district-wide statement it explained, “Due to a number of our students, teachers, and staff coming from areas still affected by icy road conditions, CCSD will be closed for Students and Staff on Friday the 24th. We have listened to the input from our staff and parents and made this decision for the safety of everyone in the school district. We will return to our regular schedule on Monday.”

The more consolidated Lanett City Schools decided to resume classes for Friday. The decision was announced via social media by school Superintendent Jennifer Boyd and Safety Coordinator Clifford Story.

Lee County Schools will be closed for Friday, as well.

Springwood School originally announced they would have a two-hour delay to the start of school tomorrow. However, a little after 8:00 p.m. the school released a statement saying, “With surrounding counties (Chambers, Troup, Harris, and Lee) from which we draw students and staff now all closed tomorrow, Springwood will also be CLOSED on Friday, January 24.”

The currently scheduled Springwood basketball game at Chambers Academy is still on for tomorrow night, but any shift to that plan will be communicated early tomorrow afternoon, according to the school.

Chambers Academy will begin at the regularly scheduled start time on Friday. However, in a social media post Headmaster Jon Owens, said, “We do ask that all families and drivers use caution. We do want students here on time, but we do understand late arrivals if drivers are being more cautious.”

The Dadeville route to Chambers will run as normal tomorrow morning.
