WEST POINT — When Tomekia Day opened Trinity Financial Service Bureau eight years ago she didn’t know that it would eventually share a building with not one, but two other businesses also under her ownership.

Tomekia Day and Company, now located at 816 3rd Ave., in West Point, is the title of the “umbrella” over Trinity Financial, drug testing facility Caring Spirits LLC and Beauty Mark’D Makeup and Eyelash Studio. Day, who owns and operates the unlikely trio says that the combination came after her tax service originally left her wanting.

“I was out all summer, just working seasonally and I just prayed to God to give me something else,” she said. “That was when I birthed Beauty Mark‘D.”

She used her two businesses to serve the community with beauty and financial makeovers until another idea came about. A nurse by trade, Day said that the idea to provide testing services at Caring Spirits caught on much better than expected.

“It was a thought, it was an idea, it was a future plan,” she said, “But as we got into it, there was a great need for it and it just took off. God has just blessed me with being able to run, budget and manage three different businesses at the same time.”

Day is successfully the sole owner of all three businesses but said she still gets help from time to time. Evangelist and friend Kathy Bullard helps with the tax service while Elizabeth Melton, a Pathways councilor that Day met when nursing there, lends a hand with drug testing, both of them volunteers.

According to Day, business at her companies is steady but could be helped out by community support.

“Right now I get most of my contracts from the surrounding area outside of West Point,” she said. “The business has been here for eight years and I would like more support from the community. [I want them] to at least see what I’m about. I’m here to stay.”

The community was recently invited to tour her businesses thanks to a Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored “Business After Hours.” Day said the event was a big step for Tomekia Day and Company.

“It was great exposure,” Day said. “A lot of people were able to come to the inside and see the open space that I have for each business and its place in the building. I think it allowed them to get a new perspective on what it is I do.”
