VALLEY — To help fund all of the contributions they make to organizations in the area, the Valley Kiwanis Club will be holding a bowling fundraiser next week.
On Thursday, Sept. 13, teams of four can come out to Valley Bowl and, for a $60 entry fee, compete against other bowlers for a $100 cash prize. Those who want to vie for a Big Green Egg grill can enter a raffle that will be announced during the competition.
The Valley Kiwanis Club supports organizations like the Greater Valley Area Boys and Girls Club, the Christian Service Center, the Interfaith Food Closet, the Tallapoosa County Girls’ Ranch, Sav-a-Life and several Valley and Lanett High School scholarships, they hold fundraisers like this one year round.
Bowling, according to Secretary/Treasurer Henry Bledsoe, just seemed like a natural fit to raise funds and have fun.
“It’s relatively new, we have probably been doing it four or five years,” he said. “It’s just something that one of our members picked up on that we decided to make an effort at. Some years we have had all the lanes full. It varies from year to year.”
Teams are expected to compete without handicaps, meaning that the score earned is the score noted. Winners will win the cash prize, but with what the event will support and the fellowship that friendly competitions like these bring, Bledsoe expects everyone to enjoy themselves and encourages those who attend to try the “best cheeseburger in Valley” at the bowling alley.
“It provides more money for us to make sure we are able to contribute to the organizations that we support,” he said. “People should come down to have a good time.”
Entry forms listing a team name and a person to contact’s name, number and address can be mailed to Valley Bowl at 3212 20th Ave., Valley, AL 36854. For more info, Bledsoe said to call Valley Bowl at 334-768-2729.
