Mr. Andrew “Gene” Goug

COLQUITT, Ga. — Andrew “Gene” Gough was born on February 25, 1951 in Randolph County, Ala. to the late Bill Gough and Polly Turner. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at Miller County Hospital in Colquitt, GA at the age of 67.
He was a longtime resident of Huguley, Ala. for over 33 years. Gene worked for WestPoint Pepperell for 35 years. He then went on to work for the City of Lanett where he retired after eight years. Gene loved his family and friends and his coon dogs. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved telling jokes and always gave everyone a good laugh, because he always seemed to know when you needed it.
He enjoyed coon hunting in his spare time. Not many people knew it, but after retirement, he enjoyed baking! He was very dedicated to his faith and loved the Lord. He loved to read his Bible and was very knowledgeable of the Bible. He was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ala. He was a role model to many and the best man to come to for advice. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Gough & Polly Turner; son, Jerry Allen Gough; grandson, Brandon Ray Gough; brother, Bobby (Shirley) Gough; sister, Mary (Jimmy) Atkins; brothers-in-law, Gene Williams and Larry Whaley. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Peggy Sue Gough; sons Donald (Angela) Gough, Bryan (Michele) Gough; grandchildren Brandi Gough, Kaity Perkins, Brandon Gough, Hunter Gough, Cody Gough, Miranda Gough, Andrew Gough, and six great-grandchildren; also his sisters Debra (Harry) McDonald, Kathy Williams and Sarah Whaley. In great sorrow, he leaves behind his loving Uncle Pete (Cecil) Turner and Uncle Doodle Turner, who will forever be loved. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and staff for their love and compassion, and wisdom shown throughout the last stages of his journey. The family would also like to extend their greatest appreciation to Flat Creek Baptist Church of Blakely, GA for embracing our family and becoming our extended church family away from home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 4 p.m. EDT from Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Lanett, AL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
