Mrs. Rosie Lee Lockhart Barber

WEST POINT — Mrs. Rosie Lee Lockhart Barber was born on July 9th, 1921 in Harris County, Georgia.  She peacefully passed this life on Sunday, September 23rd, 2018 at the West Georgia Hospice.

Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Effie Lee Truitt-Lockhart, her brother, John Lockhart, grandchildren, William Jeremy Barber, Lisa W. Barber, and one infant grandson.

Rosie Lee was a homemaker and self-employed during the formative years of her children’s lives.  She later received a LPN license and served as a private duty nurse for many years.  Rosie Lee was also a very active member of the church and community serving faithfully in the Harris County Civic League, Eastern Stars, The Flat Shoals Volunteer Fire Department, and the Golden Age Club of Troup County.  In the church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, missionary, and member of the choir.  Mrs. Barber was also very creative, enjoying playing the piano, singing, arts and crafts, and fishing.

Rosie Lee Lockhart Barber is survived by her husband of 78 years, Cleve Barber, Sr.; four children, Rosie Marion (Willie) Rutledge, Cleve (Doris) Barber, II, Willie James (Nellie) Barber, Sr., and the Reverend Alton (Brenda) Barber; six grandchildren, Willie James Barber, II, Tracy L. Cutler, Angela M. Burton, Damascus L. Rutledge, and Alton E. Barber, II; 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 at 11 a.m. EDT at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in West Point, Georgia with interment following in Marseilles Cemetery.  The Reverend Willie J. Barber, II will be officiating the service.  Mrs. Barber’s family will be receiving friends at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Lanett, Alabama on Friday evening from 6:00P.M. EDT until 8 p.m. EDT.
