VALLEY — The staff of Bradshaw-Chambers County Library is offering their patrons a chance to celebrate the Christmas season early this year by donating food items for fines and participating in their annual Angel Tree.

“Fines will be waived for every food item donated,” said Librarian Mary Hamilton. “It’s 0ne dollar off for every can of boxed item of food donated.”

Donated food items are being placed in a grocery cart inside the library. Two of them have been filled and donated to the Christian Service Center. A third one is being filled at the present time.

The Angel Tree is inside the library near the circulation desk. It’s beautifully decorated with white tags. Each tag lists an item to be purchased for a child. Anyone can help make a child happy on Christmas Day by taking one of those tags, purchasing the listed item and bringing it unwrapped to the library.

“All toys go to the Christian Service Center to help a local child have a merry Christmas,” Hamilton said.

Some local people like to go by the local library this time of year just to see how it’s decorated. Assistant Director Tabitha Truitt calls it the mall at Christmas.

The library has several events planned for the Christmas season. A Joy of the Holiday Season Contest started on Monday of this week and will continue through Monday, Dec. 3. The contest guidelines have been distributed to classrooms throughout the local area. “Kids can pick up copies of the guidelines at the library,” Hamilton said. “Please check the guidelines for details.”

At 11 a.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 1st, the library will be hosting Family Fun Saturday. Kids and kids at heart can have fun decorating gingerbread houses. All materials will be provided. Space is limited, and registration needs to be done by Monday, Nov. 26th.

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4th, Santa will be at the library. Professional photographer Steve Mason will be there taking pictures of kids with Santa. Children 12 & under will receive a free book, a free photo and can enter a drawing for door prizes.

At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13th, those children who are in the 5th grade or younger can make a Mason jar snow globe. There’s a registration deadline of Friday, Dec. 7th.
