WEST POINT — It was an all-around effort for the Point women’s basketball team in Wednesday night’s 78-65 win against Allen University.

The Skyhawks had three players score in double figures, and the leading scorer was reserve sophomore guard Destinee Webster, who finished the night with 25 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

The matchup was fairly close until the Skyhawks made a run early in the second half to push their lead to double digits.

“We really turned it up in the third quarter,” Point women’s head basketball coach Tory Wooley said. “We went on a 10-2 run. I feel like our players came back from Thanksgiving break, put in the effort and we won. We went on another 8-2 run in the fourth quarter that really separated ourselves from them. I thought we got key stops in the fourth quarter, as well.”

The win pushed the Skyhawks to a 5-3 overall record and a 4-2 record within the conference. Despite being picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll, Wooley previously said that he didn’t expect the team to win much early on because Point replaced so many players from last season.

Guard Tatiana Love and forward Leah Ferguson are the only seniors on the Skyhawks’ roster.

“I feel like we’re turning a corner,” Wooley said. “I truly do. This is our third-straight win, we just have to stay humble and hungry.”

Junior guard Autumn Monkhouse controlled Point’s tempo for most of the night, contributing 11 points and 7 assists in 36 minutes. Freshman guard Nicole Izuagie knocked down four three-pointers on her way to adding 17 points in the effort.

The conference schedule continues for Point, as the team heads to face Union College in Kentucky on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST.
