MRS. EVELYN HUDMON

WEST POINT — Mrs. Evelyn Sumlin Hudmon, 100, of West Point passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at her granddaughter’s residence in Stone Mountain, Ga. Mrs. Hudmon was born April 2, 1917 in Dayton, Ohio.
Evelyn was married to Mr. R. B. Hudmon, Sr. and to this union two children were born. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She was member of the Bethlehem Baptist, Church, West Point, where she was the oldest member. She was very active in the church, being a member of the Missionary Society, Senior Choir, Mother’s Board and the Golden Age Club.
Evelyn did not shy away from work. She retired from Valley Chevrolet and WestPoint Pepperell with many years of service. After retirement she enjoyed working in her home, yard and garden. Her garden was her pride and joy. She enjoyed sharing the vegetables from her garden with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, R. B. Hudmon, Sr.; her children, Annie Ruth Austin, R.B. Hudmon, Jr.; siblings Clara Strickland Mories, Leila Zanders, Francina Brown, Essie Mae Palmer, Pearl Philpott, Oscar Thomas Sumlin and Stanford Sumlin.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories: five grandchildren, Cliff (Bernice) Austin Jr., Suwanee, Ga., David Mark (Octavia) Austin, Snellville, Ga., Evelyn Austin, Gwen (Anthony) Kemp, and George Scott, Jr. all of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 12 great-grandchildren, 23 great- great grandchildren; one brother, Willie Henry (Julia) Lee, LaGrange, Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11 a.m. EST on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Dr. Willie T. Edmondson, pastor, serving as the eulogist. Interment followed in the Eastview Cemetery.
