LaFAYETTE — It just wasn’t their night.

Trouble from the free throw line was the story in the LaFayette girls basketball team’s 49-39 loss to Ranburne in the area tournament championship game.

“We didn’t have it,” LaFayette girls head basketball coach Michael Bratcher said. “Feliah [Greer] was not on point tonight. Free throws. The little things. I don’t know if we took them for granted because we’ve previously beat them by 23 and 12. We come out here tonight, and we miss 18 free throws.”

The Bulldogs tied the game in a big moment during the second half before Ranburne went on another run from reasons that were beyond Bratcher.

“All of a sudden, they go on a 4-0 run because we’re not ready,” he said. “It’s like we didn’t set up right. Little stuff just kept adding and adding. Before you know it, we’re losing the game.”

Greer still led the team in scoring on the night, finishing with 17 points. Ebony Williams finished with 12 points, while Alahbra’J Todd and Monkeliyah Morgan also got on the board for LaFayette in the effort.

“We struggled to score already,” Bratcher said. “Tonight made it worse because of us not clicking. Not running the plays the right way, the little things. It just kept adding and before you know it, we’re in a dog fight.”

Williams and Greer were both named to the all-tournament team. The Bulldogs walked off of the court in disappointment after the loss. Greer returned to the floor at the end of the night to get more shots up and to work out with LaFayette boys’ star guard Corey Boston.

LaFayette returns to action to begin the state tournament on the road next Monday.

“I have a ton of confidence in them,” Bratcher said. “They never gave up out there tonight. There were a couple of times where they got a little bit deflated, but they fought to the end. Shots didn’t go, a call or two didn’t go our way at the end there. I told them if you leave the game in the referees’ hands, you’re not going to win. That’s what we did tonight.”
